IGES and STEP CAD Model Geometry Import, with STL Feature Recognition

IGES and STEP CAD Model Geometry Import, with STL Feature Recognition

FEATool Multiphysics has been updated to support IGES and STEP CAD geometry models, as well as STL models with automatic feature and boundary recognition.

After updating, the new IGES and STEP CAD import options can conveniently be accessed from the corresponding Geometry > Import menus, respectively. Moreover, it is now also possible to directly export geometries and grids to fully interactive web browser plots using the Export Geometry/Grid > Web Browser.

STL CAD geometries now also supports automatic repair, boundary, and feature detection which enables built-in identification of boundary surfaces which is essential for meshing and assigning boundary conditions.

The modeling process for imported CAD geometries follows the normal pattern of mesh and grid generation, specification of modeling equations and coefficients, assigning boundary conditions, solving, and finally postprocessing and visualization, as can be seen below.

FEATool Multiphysics is available as a MATLABĀ® Add-On and fully interactive physics simulation toolbox (with one-click installation directly from the MATLABĀ® Add-Ons Toolbar or free to download using the link below). The latest and up to date releases are also always available from the Precise Simulation GitHub repository.
